Objectives, orders and exclusions

A rule does nothing on its own. It acts only on orders whose Objective includes it, and never on anything excluded.

An Objective is a named set of rules — for example one Bidding rule, one Frequency rule and one Budget rule for your remarketing orders.

Create one under Objectives › New Objective:

  • Name, up to 120 characters, and an optional Description.
  • Rules — tick any of your rules, of any type. The list shows whether each is On or Off.

A rule can sit in several Objectives. Switching it off stops it in all of them.

An Objective that is assigned to orders can’t be deleted: “Remove this Objective from its Orders before deleting it.” Deleting an Objective keeps its rules. Deleting a rule removes it from every Objective that uses it.

An order has at most one Objective. Assigning another replaces it. The order and all its line items are checked against that Objective’s rules — including line items added to the order later.

There are three places to assign:

Where How
Objectives Choose Orders… on an Objective. An order that already has a different Objective shows it as Now: …
Order Assignments Select orders, then Assign Objective…
DSP Manager, Campaigns tab Select orders, then Objective in the selection bar

To stop automating an order, choose No Objective (not automated), or untick it under Choose Orders….

The Order Assignments page lists your orders with their status, their Objective — or Not automated — and any exclusion. In DSP Manager, the Objective column shows the order’s Objective.

Assigning and excluding change settings in Vendlen only. Nothing is sent to Amazon DSP when you do them.

Exclude what the rules should leave alone — a line item you paused on purpose, or an order you are testing by hand.

Exclude from Order Assignments (orders), or from DSP Manager’s selection bar with Exclude (orders on the Campaigns tab, line items on the Ad groups tab). The window asks:

Setting Choices
For how long 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, Custom (1 to 365 days) or No end date
Which rule types Bidding, Frequency, Budget — all three are ticked to start with

Excluding an order excludes every line item in it. An exclusion for some rule types leaves the others free to act: a line item excluded from Bidding can still have its frequency cap changed by a Frequency rule.

When the time runs out, the rules check it again on their next run.

From the Excluded page, Remove on a row — “Rules will check … again on their next run.” — or Remove Exclusion in the same window you excluded from.

Everything on this page needs DSP Automation · Edit. With View, the pages show your Objectives, assignments and exclusions without the buttons that change them.
