Sponsored Products templates

Sponsored Products is where a set does most of its work. A template can write up to six SP campaign types, one per targeting pattern — and one campaign per type per selected ASIN. Create Campaign also offers Automatic Bulk, which creates 2–20 independent Automatic campaigns with a bid range.

Pattern What it targets
Automatic Amazon decides, from your listing
Broad Your keywords, loosely matched
Phrase Your keywords, with the phrase intact
Exact Your keywords, exactly
Product Specific ASINs
Category Product categories rather than keywords

Each selected pattern is one campaign per selected ASIN in a Campaign Set. Building explicit rows one at a time is Create a campaign; building several at once is a Campaign Set.

Because match types answer different questions, and mixing them means you cannot tell which answered.

Broad and Automatic are discovery: they find queries you did not think of, at a price. Exact is exploitation: you already know this query converts and you want to own it. Phrase sits between them.

Keep them apart and each campaign’s numbers mean something. A single campaign carrying all three gives you one blended ACOS that describes none of them.

  1. Automatic and Broad run first and generate search terms.
  2. The terms that convert get harvested into Exact.
  3. The terms that lose get negated on the source, so the discovery campaigns stop paying for them.
  4. Exact carries the proven demand at a bid you set deliberately.

That loop is why the atomic structure matters: it is hard to run when discovery and exploitation share a campaign.

Categories reach shoppers browsing a product type rather than searching a phrase. Useful for a product whose demand is not well described by keywords, and for defending a category you are established in.

It is usually a supplement rather than a starting point — category traffic is broader and needs watching.

  • Every campaign a set writes is created paused, so the structure exists before anything spends. In Preview you can also switch off individual automatic targeting types before the Automatic campaign is created.
  • Every campaign gets the daily budget you set, so six SP types across three ASINs is eighteen budgets, not six. A campaign can contain at most 100 targets.
  • The bid you set at the bid step is a CPC bid. In Campaign Sets it applies to Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands Video; Sponsored Display has separate Conversion and Reach bid bases. See Campaign Sets.
